Three miniatures were made, a 5’ 'hero' (with full interior and figures), a 2½‘, and the smallest was 1½”. The first two have been sold in auctions, but the smallest was lost during filming. The model was set down to dry, and a crow flew off with it.
The film’s models were built by Marcel Delgado (King Kong, The War of the Worlds, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea). The visual effects were handled by the 20th Century-Fox special effects department; L.B. Abbott (Voyage to The Bottom of The Sea, Lost in Space, Journey to The Center of The Earth, Doctor Dolittle, and Logan’s Run), Art Cruickshank, and Emil Kosa Jr.
